Jazz singer Yazmin Lacey is an artist who has really shone bright this year, having released her gorgeous 3rd EP Morning Matters, with tracks picked up by 6 Music, as well as a collaboration with Cogni, Two Takes EP; finishing each song in 'two takes' in order to keep the process as raw and organic as possible. She also performed an intimate stripped-back show for the sought-after streaming platform COLOURS. From the get-go, the Nottingham-based Londoner seeped talent and vitality, despite her modesty. The first single that hit this year was 'Not Today Mate', reminiscent of Erykah Badu, it's a neo-soul gem, that sees uplifting synth pads, some assured wah guitar, and jazzy keyboard runs. Our favourite, the delightful and low-key 'Morning Matters' came next, a song adorned by indulgent, tranquil saxophone, and plenty of space for Yazmin's rich, syrupy vocals to spread - it's a tune that you'll have on repeat all of next year as well. -Ellie Rose-Davies
